BLOOM MENTAL HEALTH
Do certain "normal" sounds really bother you? Chewing, pens clicking, dogs barking, mechanical rattles, and other daily noises...for those suffering from misophonia, sounds often perceived as background noise to others can seem incredibly heightened or cause an involuntary response of feeling anxious or even angry.
At our practice we feel strongly that those suffering from these symptoms should have treatment options and a greater understanding of the neuroscience behind their condition. As proud members of the Misophonia Association and one of the only practices in the country specializing in the treatment of misophonia, we strive to bring greater awareness to this condition as well as evidenced based treatment options for those suffering from it.
We can provide diagnostic assessments, as well as treatment with medications, natural supplements, and education regarding further therapy treatment options. We also regularly treat co-occurring psychiatric conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and OCD.
We treat both children and adults with this disorder.
We are located in Littleton, Colorado, but we serve clients all across the state! As a comprehensive psychiatric treatment center, we can also treat co-existing diagnoses such as anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, and more. Visit our website for more information.

Approach: Trained in Existential Psychotherapy at USC, I have adapted my work to include CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy). I have developed my own unique blend of these therapies, along with incorporating creative arts, humor, and storytelling. I have seen hundreds of child, teen, and adult patients struggling with misophonia, and receive calls from across the country and even abroad. I work collaboratively with audiologists nationwide to provide the best treatment possible. I have been involved with all of the Misophonia Association conventions for patients and families and have done presentations for other professionals to inform and educate them about misophonia.
Credentials: California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, with a doctoral degree and more than 40 years helping people deal with the medical and other challenges of their lives.
Approach: Full evaluation including audiogram, Tympanogram, acoustic reflexes, DPOAE, MCL, UCL, LDL, medical history, various misophonia questionnaires, and family questionnaires. Discussion of management strategies including sound therapy, educational counseling, relaxation exercises, thought restructuring, and consult with CBT therapist. Prescription of sound generators when applicable. Follow-up appointments as needed to chart progress.
Many of my patients have experienced significant relief: some mild relief, some moderate, some extensive relief. I don’t have any metrics to share at this time.
I truly care about helping patients with misophonia. I have misophonia myself, so I have empathy. I belief relief can be had via a combination of management strategies. True- there is no cure yet. However, management strategies significantly improve quality of life.
APPROACH: Counseling with patient and family members. Provide options for sound therapy. I will also connect them with a psychologist if they do not already have one.
I see patients aged 5 years and older. I work with individuals who experience hearing loss, tinnitus, hyperacusis, misophonia and auditory processing disorders.
CREDENTIALS: Board Certified in Audiology (ABA)
Approach: Our clinic provides diagnostic help for those who suffer from Misophonia. We test hearing, assess degree of impairment, review medical records for any causative factors, include family and significant others in counseling and conversation as well as planning for audiological help options. We coordinate with psychotherapists and psychologists in our clinic as well.
