Learn what some participants of the “Coping Tools” clinic held on January 31 had to say:
- I am not alone!
- It’s important to practice swimming in the shallow end before diving into the deep end. There are many calming practices that can help regulate the nervous system. Reframing the perceived threat is an important piece.
- I’m a clinician, so it was helpful to hear some of the questions people asked. It helped me understand some of the most common challenges people face.
- The clinic provided a helpful reminder to focus on calming myself and offered techniques to better tolerate sounds.
- Virtual therapy is an option. Excited to hear there is research underway on an earpiece that can cancel specific repetitive noises or sound frequencies.
- I learned loads of regulation techniques to try with my daughter.
- I loved it. It was well organized, many ‘sessions’ like this tend to get way too general and drag on. Here, it was the right balance between real-life situation (details), systemic challenges, and general information.
- I appreciated the panel’s comments and the audience’s feedback on students’ problems at school. Because I hope the educational “establishment” can find ways to help kids avoid the alienation it can cause throughout life.
- The first thing was the validation of what I’ve been experiencing for 60+ years. I also purchased some of the items shared to help me manage the annoying sounds.
- The list of practical tips for calming down the nervous system is very helpful. The products shown and talked about. The usefulness of cold/ice. The advice regarding the birds chirping outside the window and how to reframe that sound.
