I have just recently found the term that describes what I have lived with most of my life and that there is a support community out there. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders knowing I’m not alone and This is a thing. Thank you to everyone for welcoming me ?
Good Morning,
I am at the end of my rope and could use help and advice.
Since I was a child small things have bothered me..i.e. crunching, slurping, gum chewing and gum popping, feet moving and more. I have dealt with these things by hiding them from my sight, leaving the room, or in my husband’s case, yelling at the poor guy to stop!
Over the last few months, neighbors on both sides of our home have surround sound on their television. I can hear the bass thump. We moved to a different room in the house to watch tv but I can’t stay in that room all day. At night, when I go to bed, the neighbor on the other side has her television on and I hear thumping. I have a white noise machine, I stuffed Kleenex in my ears, now have purchased earplugs but I can still hear it until they go to bed and turn it off. I nicely went to one of the neighbors and explained that I could hear the bass constantly, hoping she would turn it down a bit. Instead she told me there was no way I could hear their tv and she told me “I am cra y”! That hurt me so badly. I am a 70-year-old woman that babysits her grandchildren, owns a small business and far from crazy.
I am beginning to think of suicide to stop the sounds.
P.S. I have suffered with dizziness and vertigo for 34 years……lost no hearing though.
I’m a journalist with misophonia. I have questions about your ass’n. So happy to have found you! I’d like to talk to one of your leaders.
May I have a contact, please?
