About the Session

Session 1: History of Misophonia

Take a journey with Dr. Marsha Johnson into the history of misophonia, starting long before the condition had a formal name. Today, the landscape has completely shifted—millions of dollars are dedicated to research, and diverse management strategies are utilized worldwide. Dr. Johnson will trace this remarkable evolution, highlighting the clinical breakthroughs and advocacy efforts that moved misophonia from isolation to international scientific exploration.

Session 2: Year 2: Misophonia and Movement

Building on the success of 2025’s breakthrough session on how movement influences misophonia and mood, Dr. Johnson returns with another engaging workshop. Through a combination of games and tailored physical movements, participants will explore their sensory responses in a safe, supportive environment with people who “get it.”

About the Presenter

Marsha Johnson is the founder of the Misophonia Association and a pioneer in identifying the condition originally coined selective sound sensitivity syndrome (4S) in the 1990s. Since that time, she has devoted her career to providing care for patients with tinnitus, hyperacusis, and sound sensitivity at her Oregon clinic. Dr. Johnson continues to guide the Association’s mission and lead its annual convention, bringing together individuals, families, and professionals to advance education, advocacy, and community support.
