Sara Barrick, LMFT Sara Barrick is an author, licensed marriage and family therapist, and somatic experiencing practitioner specializing in misophonia and trauma healing. Having wrestled with misophonia for 25 years and achieved freedom from it in 2018, Ms. Barrick brings a deep understanding of both the challenges faced by those with the condition and the path to healing. She is known for helping people see the broader picture of misophonia and empowering them to move beyond the mindset of “no cure, only coping” to one of “healing is possible and a process.” PRESENTATION: “Misophonia Coping and Healing Strategies”
Tom Dozier, MS, BCBA, BAMC:BCCTIn addition to serving as the director of the Misophonia Treatment Institute, Tom Dozier is an author and behavior analyst. He provides behavioral interventions that help change reflex behaviors, such as misophonia. Part of the conventions since 2014, Mr. Dozier is active in research, publishing, theory, and potential treatments for misophonia. Jane Gregory is a clinical psychologist, researcher, and author. She created the website “Sounds like misophonia,” to spread awareness and education. She co-authored, with Dr. Silia Vitoratou, the world’s first valid and reliable questionnaire that captures the five aspects of misophonia, now a viable tool for research and therapy. Dr. Gregory’s goal is to develop strategies that will reduce the intensity of misophonia reactions and help those with misophonia lead more fulfilling lives. Dr. Jaelline Jaffe, LMFTJaelline Jaffe is a licensed marriage and family therapist and Misophonia Association board member with 40-plus years of experience as an educator, psychotherapist, and coach. She developed and leads a multidimensional program that has benefited hundreds of misophonia clients and their families. Dr. Jaffe has presented at every patient convention since 2013, as well as at dozens of professional conferences across the country, in London, and in Warsaw. She previously co-authored two books and recently created a training manual, “These Sounds are Driving Me Crazy!” to aid mental health professionals in treating sound sensitivity disorders. Dr. Marsha Johnson, AuDFor nearly 30 years, Marsha Johnson has devoted her career to the care of patients with tinnitus, hyperacusis, and misophonia at her Oregon clinic. Holding the highest degree in her field, Dr. Johnson has served on many nonprofit boards, including the American Tinnitus Association and the Tinnitus Practitioners Association. As the founder of Misophonia Association, she enjoys leading the annual convention, which connects experts and patients. Dr. Paula Land, AuDFrom military service to audiology expertise, Paula Land’s path shows dedication and excellence. Dr. Land’s credentials are a testament to her knowledge and commitment in the field of audiology. She holds board certification in audiology, the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and an esteemed fellowship in the American Academy of Audiology. Dr. Cindy Simon, AuDAn audiologist specialist at South Miami Audiology Consultants, Cindy Simon has more than 30 years of experience as a licensed audiologist. She is an expert in misophonia diagnosis and treatment and serves on the Misophonia Association’s board. Dr. Simon offers a wealth of experience to all patients at her office and also serves on a number of professional boards, both locally and nationally, advocating for hearing healthcare. John “The Smooter” SmootNear the end of 2015, John Smoot learned that misophonia was the cause of the sound sensitivity issues that had plagued him since his teen years in the 1980s. In 2017, he attended his first misophonia convention, became a part of the community and, in 2023, he became a Misophonia Association board member. John also is the administrator of the Western and Pacific Misophonia Support Group, as well as the non-region-based group, Misophonia Without Borders. Both are on Facebook. John hosts the “Misophonia Without Borders” channel on YouTube, which primarily focuses on misophonia awareness, advocacy, and coping. Dr. Jadon Webb, MDJadon Webb is a psychiatrist who is board certified in adult and child/adolescent psychiatry. His practice, Bloom Mental Health, diagnoses and treats misophonia. Dr. Webb is actively involved in the academic community and scientific research and is a faculty member at the Yale Child Study Center. He strongly believes in family-centered mental health and serves as a board member for the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Colorado.
